Reminder: Holy Grounds Planning Meeting
Just a reminder that we’re holding a planning meeting on Sunday at 4:30 pm to talk about the focus for the summer and a schedule around dinner. Details below! Thanks all!
I’ve been talking to a handful of you about pulling together some time to talk about what we want Holy Grounds to look like moving forward. I’ve volunteered to pull together a few meetings (I’m thinking once a month for the summer) to talk about some specific things we need to make decisions on.
I would like to do the first of these meetings on Sunday, June 7 from 4:30 – 5:30 pm. Here are the things I’d like to get your input/feedback on and I thought it might be helpful if you could think about it ahead of time. If you have thoughts you’d like to contribute to the discussion, but can’t make the meeting, feel free to shoot me an email (sreinitz@hotmail.com).
There are two agenda items:
1. Schedule & dinner plans – There are some of us who think it would be helpful to have a slightly more concrete start and end time for worship on Sunday evenings, in order to be respectful of people’s time and allow those with children and other responsibilities to plan accordingly and join us. We want to do this in a way, however, that doesn’t jeopardize our community-building focus or keep us from engaging with what the Spirit may be leading us to do in a given evening. It has also been suggested that we do dinner together at Holy Grounds instead of going out afterwards. This is a less expensive option but still allows us to eat with one another. The question is how and when to do it – before or after worship, changing worship time to incorporate this, etc. I’d love to know what different people think and come away with a recommendation.
2. Focus for the summer – We also need to decide what we want to focus on for the summer as a community and then decide how to divide up leading worship (similar to the grief focus we developed over Lent). If there is a topic or series of topics that you’d like to see us grapple with together, please come and let us know.
We hope to focus on several other issues in future meetings, including our relationship with the morning service community, supporting Holy Grounds financially, possibly incorporating a liturgy of some sort into our worship, etc. If there are other discussions you’d like to see us have, let me know and I will add it to the list. Thank you all!

OK I am so behind in the world of church. I didn’t realize this meeting would be tomorrow, and I already made plans! Whatever. Here are my two cents to the discussion:
1. I think maybe a monthly potluck could be a good idea. I really like to cook, as you may know.
2. As a potential point of focus, I think it follows from Lent (looking inward) to look outward, i.e. think on what our “community” means and how to serve it. What does church mean in an era where we commute to worship and use twitter to communicate? What is our relation to the world and our much poorer brothers and sisters, and how can we build on that relationship? I think if we all pitch topics like these, each of them could be a topic of discussion each week and we could have some great content for worship.
3. I want to use the meeting as a time to pitch once again the idea of a book/bible study jointly with the morning congregation. I think some of the men are doing a potential book study but I personally need some accountability when it comes to getting into the Word. I don’t care if it’s a handful of girls only or coed, although I think the girls only thing would be kind of neat. I also thought it would be a good way to start bridging the gap between the morning and evening worship. I know Lakeisha is very interested. BTW is she coming to this meeting? please make sure she is invited!
4. Finally, please summarize the highlights of the meeting in some way for those of us who won’t be there!
