THIS WEEK AT HOLY GROUNDS

We're still working on this Sunday's plans. However, we'll be discussing our plans for the next couple of months at dinner afterwards and EVERYONE is invited.

WAYS TO CHALLENGE AND GROW YOUR FAITH AND GET TO KNOW PEOPLE

1) Small Group

There is a small group bible study of Matthew most Wednesdays at 7pm. However, since it's New Years Eve (see 2) this Wednesday, will resume in January.

2) New Year's Eve Party

New Year’s Eve – 7:30 pm
Dave Moore’s place (from Fairlington UMC)
5133 52nd St., NW Washington, DC 20016

It’s apparently a big house with plenty of parking and Dave’s future brother-in-law is volunteering to cook for us! We are in charge of bringing dessert and drinks (alcoholic or non). Please let Steph know if you plan on coming and what you’d like to bring. If you have any fun games or movies bring those too. I’m also willing to meet people at FPC at 7 pm to carpool if people want to. Dave did mention the idea of a masquerade ball… not sure where that landed so I’ll let him reply to all and let you know. I’m not much of a costume person but we all know Matt is always looking for an excuse to dress up :) Hope you can all join us! Contact Steph if you have questions – 612.708.0793 or sreinitz@hotmail.com.

3) Day Retreat

Matt's friend Mike Gress is part of a community of people that gather at his house about an hour outside the city. They are very excited about the work we are doing in pursuing the Kingdom of God and have invited us to join them for the day Saturday, January 10 as they would love to sit down and get to know us.

A lot of us don’t get to have a day to relax. Here’s your chance. It will be a casual day. We’ll spend the morning just hanging out and sharing stories; have a big chunk of time in the afternoon to relax, nap, explore the mountains, whatever strikes your fancy; and then hang out some more later in the day. Of course, there’s tons of flexibility, so if what you really need that day is to rest by yourself, you could spend the whole day doing that (there is definitely space on the property to get away from everything). Additionally, it’s good for you to know the folks Bluemont as they love hosting people and would love for you guys to use their place for rest in the future as well.

We'd originally talked about meeting at Mike's farmhouse, but they are renovating their kitchen, so we will be meeting from 9 AM through late afternoon at the J. Patrick House B&B at 37110 Snickersville Turnpike, Philomont VA 20131. A soup and sandwich lunch will be provided (donations willingly accepted ;>) ), but please let Matt know if you can attend so we can give them a good headcount. He'll send you detailed directions as well.

4) Apartment for Rent

Joanna is still looking for someone to finish out her lease (beginning in February). She lives on Route 7 between Bailey's Crossroad and Seven Corners. It's 750 sq ft, 1 BR/1 Bath. $1009/month. If you know anyone who might be interested, let her know.

5) Books available at Holy Grounds

We have some great books available that have had a lot of impact on many of us as we've contemplated how to best be followers of Jesus. If you're wondering which book is for you ask the folks sitting around you. The books we have available now are: Irresistible Revolution by Shane Claiborne, Velvet Elvis and Sex God by Rob Bell, Street Girls by Matt Roper and Jesus for President by Shane Claiborne and Chris Haw.

Also available: Teen Bibles, Pocket Bibles, Study Bibles.

Holy Grounds usually meets in the lower level of Fairlington Presbyterian
